Watch: ‘Michael Jackson’ Motown 25 Special “Moonwalk” Dance

The first time Michael Jackson performed the legendary moonwalk was during his performance of Billie Jean on Motown’s historic TV special “Motown 25: Yesterday · Today · Forever,” which originally aired on May 16, 1983.

‘Motown 25’ featured almost every Motown artist which  included: Michael Jackson, Marvin Gaye, Smokey Robinson, Stevie Wonder, Diana Ross, The Supremes, The Jackson 5, The Miracles, The Temptations, Four Tops and many others.

I remember watching ‘Motown 25’ live on TV in 83. Michael Jackson electrified the audience as he seemed to float around the floor like a dancing machine.

Public Broadcasting Service (PBS) has just announced plans to re-air the special in its entirety for the first time ever on Feb. 28. PBS will run ‘Motown 25′ throughout March as part of the PBS Pledge Drive.

Motown 25’ offers a lifetime of Motown magic and memories for almost everyone.

Entertainment of interest to me is not just a repeat of what you can find elsewhere, but, is inclusive of stories that are not highly publicized as well as 'old-school' celebrity news. I see the glass half-full and strive to be a light in the darkness.

I have a video of a performer doing the “SLIDE” on stage in NY in the 1950’s. You got to see MJ do the “SLIDE” or as you like to refer to it as the “MOONWALK”.
    Don’t believe everything you read.

Hi Walter, I actually saw the video of the amazing performer in the 1950s doing the ‘SLIDE.’ I think Michael Jackson’s performance stood out because it was the “Motown Special” and was seen as his breakout performance from his brothers. Thank you for your comment!
