Watch: Chiwetel Ejiofor in ‘Half of a Yellow Sun’ Nigerian Historical Drama – Behind the scenes Footage

‘Half of a Yellow Sun’ is a 2013 Nigerian historical drama film that was adapted from Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie’s  award-winning novel of the same name. The film is a love story that follows twin sisters Olanna (Thandie Newton) and Kainene (Anika Noni Rose) who return home to 1960s Nigeria after their education in England where they soon are caught up in the outbreak of the Nigerian Civil War.

The decisions the sister make shock their family. Olanna moves in with her lover, the ‘revolutionary professor’ Odenigbo (Chiwetel Ejiofor) and his houseboy Ugwu (John Boyega) while Kainene takes over the family interests and pursues a career as a businesswoman, falling in love with Richard (Joseph Mawle), an English writer.

‘Half of a Yellow Sun’ is many love stories woven together, it’s love of family, its romantic love, it’s love of country – it’s a universal story.

“I feel as if I’ve been dropped into something that I don’t understand.”  The sisters become caught up in the shocking violence of the Nigerian Civil War and a betrayal that threatens their family forever.

‘Half of a Yellow Sun,’ now streaming on Netflix and available on DVD stars Chiwetel Ejiofor, Thandie Newton and Anika Noni Rose.

Entertainment of interest to me is not just a repeat of what you can find elsewhere, but, is inclusive of stories that are not highly publicized as well as 'old-school' celebrity news. I see the glass half-full and strive to be a light in the darkness.
