Brad Pitt is off to battle in a Story about the Politics of War in David Michôd’s ‘War Machine’ (Clip) Satire with an All-Star Cast

“Our hope is that you’re the man who will get the job done.” ‘War Machine’ is a war drama for our times starring Brad Pitt who takes on the role as General Stanley McChrystal, an ultra-confident successful, charismatic four-star general. Based on the 2011 best-selling nonfiction book The Operators by Michael Hastings the story line recreates the General’s roller-coaster rise and fall as part reality, part savage parody – raising the specter of just where the line between them lies today.

“We are here to support, to protect and rebuild the civilian population. To that end we must avoid killing it at all cost. We can’t help them by killing them at the same time. It just ain’t humanly possible.” An absurdist war story for our times, writer-director David Michôd recreates a U.S. General’s roller-coaster rise and fall as part reality, part savage parody – raising the specter of just where the line between them lies today.

“It’s my job to ensure that your personal ambitions are kept in check.” They’re Not There to Win, They’re There to Clean Up the Mess. His is an exploration of a born leader’s ultra-confident march right into the dark heart of folly. At the story’s core is Brad Pitt’s sly take on a successful, charismatic four-star general who leapt in like a rock star to command NATO forces in Afghanistan, only to be taken down by a journalist’s no-holds-barred exposé.

With an outstanding cast that includes Brad Pitt, Anthony Michael Hall, Topher Grace, Meg Tilly, Will Poulter, Tilda Swinton, Jonathan Ing,  Lakeith Stanfield and Ben Kingsley, the film will be released on Netflix May 26, 2017.

About

Entertainment of interest to me is not just a repeat of what you can find elsewhere, but, is inclusive of stories that are not highly publicized as well as ‘old-school’ celebrity news.

I see the glass half-full and strive to be a light in the darkness.
