“All I know is how to be a writer.” “There is nothing more sacred than story. How does that sound Mr. Salinger?” ‘Rebel in the Rye’ is a biographical drama of celebrated but reclusive author, J.D. Salinger, who gained worldwide fame with the publication of his novel, The Catcher in the Rye. The story follows a young man struggling to find his way in the bustling streets of 1930’s New York City. Like so many before him he aggressively pursues independence, love, sex and the stimulating experiences of life.
“I’ve always found fiction more truthful than reality. So what do I do now?” “You’re a writer what do you think you do now?” He dreams of making it as a short-story writer. Upon meeting Whit Burnett he finds the mentor and friend he needs to help him break through and start rendering his energy and life stories into words on the page.
“Are you willing to devote your life to telling stories?” “I just want my writing to be truthful.” The film premiered at the Sundance Film Festival with the synopsis from the film’s premiere that read: “This biopic of legendary author J.D. Salinger (Nicholas Hoult) details his relationship with socialite Oona O’Neill (Zoey Deutch), his experiences fighting in World War II, and his writing process for “The Catcher in the Rye.”
“I don’t know if I’m cut out for this.” “Maybe not.” ‘Rebel in the Rye’ based on the untold true story about the birth of an American classic examines Salinger’s early years. The film was written and directed by Danny Strong, based on the book J. D. Salinger: A Life by Kenneth Slawenski, about the life of young writer during World War II. “Pages of this book were with me when I was on the beaches at Normandy. I won’t be alive if it wasn’t for this book.”
“War Hero doesn’t always get a parade, sometimes he blows his Head Off.” Starring Nicholas Hoult, Zoey Deutch, Kevin Spacey, Sarah Paulson, Brian d’Arcy James, Victor Garber, Hope Davis, and Lucy Boynton, the film is scheduled to be released on September 15, 2017, by IFC Films.
