“If you haven’t heard the name Courtney Rose you’re not alone. He’s a 27-year-old struggling rapper who is adding a new title to his playlist. Candidate for mayor.” In the ABC coming new comedy series ‘The Mayor’ young rapper Courtney Rose (Brandon Micheal Hall) needs his big break. For years he’s toiled away in a small inner-city apartment, making music in his junk-filled bedroom closet. Tired of waiting for opportunity, Courtney cooks up the publicity stunt of the century – running for mayor of his hometown in California to generate buzz for his music career.
“Turns out its super easy to run for local office. Step one get 200 signatures, step two don’t be a felon. And I don’t go to trial until next year. I’m just playing ma.” The city needs a Mayor, Courtney Rose needs a Break. Unfortunately for Courtney, his master plan goes wildly awry, ending in the most terrifying of outcomes: an election victory.
“What’s happening?” “It appears as if Courtney Rose is mayor.” “What happened?” “You the mayor.” “This has to be a mistake.” With the help of his mother (Yvette Nicole Brown) and friends, including Valentina (Lea Michele), Courtney will have to overcome his hubris if he wants to transform the struggling city he loves.
“I know what I have to do. You want to say it first?” He’s got the rhythm to Run This City. ‘The Mayor’ coming to ABC on Tuesdays at 9:30|8:30c, stars Brandon Micheal Hall, Lea Michele, Bernard David Jones, Marcel Spears and Yvette Nicole Brown. From executive producer Daveed Diggs, writer/executive producer Jeremy Bronson and executive producer Jamie Tarses, the series is from ABC Studios. The pilot is directed by executive producer James Griffiths.
