No Ordinary Place. No Ordinary Crime. Nicole Kidman joins Sundance TV’s ‘Top of the Lake: China Girl’ (Trailer) Season 2

“So you’re a police woman?” “A detective.” “That’s hilarious, I like you.” Sundance TV dropped the first trailer for the crime thriller ‘Top of the Lake: China Girl’ ahead of its debut at the Cannes Film Festival later this month, and it looks to be just as captivating — and as heartbreaking for its women — as ever. Set against one of the most amazing and untouched landscapes left on the planet, Top of the Lake is a powerful story about our search for happiness where the dream of paradise attracts it dark twin, the fall.

“There’s a black suit case washed up, there’s black human hair coming from the inside.” Detective Robin Griffin recently has returned to Sydney and is trying to rebuild her life. When the body of an Asian girl washes up on Bondi Beach, there appears little hope of finding the killer, until Griffin realizes “China Girl” didn’t die alone. The detective looks to the investigation to restore herself, but her problems are personal. Haunted by a daughter given up at birth, Griffin desperately wants to find her but dreads revealing the truth of her conception.

“The destiny of man is to enslave women.” “He’s dangerous.” But her search to discover “China Girl’s” identity will take her into the city’s darkest recesses and closer than she could have imagined to the secrets of her own heart. “Can you help me?”  When pregnant, 12-year-old Tui tries to kill herself in a freezing New Zealand lake, Detective Robin Griffin has plenty of questions for the girl. But when Tui suddenly disappears, Griffin finds herself knee-deep in small-town secrets.

“Can you help me?” Season 2 of the 2013 critical hit Top of the Lake, now titled ‘Top of the Lake: China Girl,’ created by Oscar winner Jane Campion and Gerard Lee, welcomes back Golden Globe winner Elisabeth Moss as detective Robin Griffin. And this time around, Nicole Kidman and Gwendoline Christie join the starring cast. The series also starring David Dencik, Alice Englert and Ewen Leslie, six-episode sophomore run will air as a special three-night event beginning Sunday, September, 10, 2017, continuing on Monday, Sept. 11 before concluding Tuesday, Sept. 12 (9/8c).

Entertainment of interest to me is not just a repeat of what you can find elsewhere, but, is inclusive of stories that are not highly publicized as well as 'old-school' celebrity news. I see the glass half-full and strive to be a light in the darkness.
