“My first impressions of Nola Darling…insatiable. She’s juggling a lot, men…ambitions” Based on the film by Spike Lee the Netflix original series ‘She’s Gotta Have It’ is the story of one woman and her three lovers. “I’m used to knowing what I want in relationships and in my art but lately I’m just so confused.”
Who is Nola Darling? “Monogamy never even seemed like a remote possibility.” “Doesn’t it get confusing juggling all of them at the same time?” Thirty years ago, Spike Lee burst onto the independent filmmaking scene with his look at one free-spirited artist making it happen for herself in Brooklyn, New York. Now, Miss Nola Darling returns in a timely, topical update of the writer-director’s ‘She’s Gotta Have It.’
“So tell me a little about the men in your life?” “Oh god, Mars makes me laugh until my sides hurt; Greer is spontaneous nothing is ever the same with him; Jamie cares about me in a way that no one ever has.” The series stars DeWanda Wise as Nola Darling, an uncompromising woman in her late twenties struggling to define herself and divide her time among her Friends, her Job and her Three Lovers.
“I think Nola’s a freak.” “I’m not a freak, I’m not a sex addict and I’m damn sure not nobody’s property. My name is Nola Darling.” Nola is not who you want her to be. Nola is now—she is outspoken, complicated, progressive, unapologetic, passionate, sexual. Nola is the modern black woman.
Created and executive produced by Spike Lee and Tonya Lewis Lee through their 40 Acres banner, ‘She’s Gotta Have It’ also stars Lyriq Bent, Cleo Anthony, Ilfenesh Hadera, Margot Bingham, and Anthony Ramos as Mars Blackmon, the iconic role originated by Spike Lee. The series will premiere Thursday, November 23, 2017 on Netflix.
