“You don’t have a musical bone in your body and you sure as hell can’t sing, what kind of music are we talking about here?” “Patti Cake$ is about a 23 year-old-girl from Northern New Jersey who is stuck in a house with her mother and her grandmother and she’s just aching to get out, move out-of-town and become a legitimate rapper. So, she goes on this surreal adventure.” The film is centered on aspiring rapper Patricia Dombrowski, a.k.a. Killa P, a.k.a. Patti Cake$ who is fighting an unlikely quest for glory in her downtrodden hometown in New Jersey.

“Your notebooks full of songs. How badly do you want this?” ‘Patti Cake$’ introduces Australian native Danielle Macdonald in a breakout role, as the aspiring rapper. Fighting an unlikely quest for glory in her downtrodden hometown in Jersey where her life is falling apart, Patti tries to reach the big time in the hip hop scene with original and affecting music.

“You have more talent and imagination that this whole town combined.” Cheered on by her grandmother (Cathy Moriarty) and only friends, Jheri (Siddharth Dhananjay) and Basterd (Mamoudou Athie), Patti also shoulders her mother’s (Bridget Everett) heartaches and misfortunes.

The film marks the feature directing debut of Geremy Jasper, the music video director who also wrote the screenplay with a cast that includes Danielle Macdonald, Bridget Everett, Cathy Moriarty, Siddharth Dhananjay, Mamoudou Athie, McCaul Lombardi, Sahr Ngaujah, Wass Stevens, and MC Lyte.
