“Get out and open your eyes the world is filled with things to see.” ‘Downsizing’ imagines what might happen if, as a solution to over-population, scientists discover how to shrink humans to five inches tall and propose a 200-year global transition from big to small. It’s a social satire about a man (Matt Damon), a kindly occupational therapist and wife Audrey (Kristen Wiig) who decide to abandon their stressed lives in Omaha who undergo a new procedure to be shrunken to four inches tall in order to move to a new downsized community to save the planet and afford a nice lifestyle at the same time.
“Do you understand that you will undergo the permanent medical procedure commonly known as downsizing and that your bodies will be approximately .03645% of their current mass and body weight?” People soon realize how much further money goes in a miniaturized world, a choice that triggers life-changing adventures. The science fiction comedy-drama is directed by Alexander Payne who co-wrote the screenplay with Jim Taylor.
“Sometimes you think you’re in the normal world and then something happens.” Starring an ensemble cast that includes: Matt Damon, Kristen Wiig, Christoph Waltz, Alec Baldwin, Niecy Nash, Laura Dern, Neil Patrick Harris, Maribeth Monroe and Jason Sudeikis ‘Downsizing’ premiered at the 74th Venice Film Festival on August 30, 2017 and is set to be released by Paramount Pictures on December 22, 2017.
