“Jan Lewan is always expanding. When I was little boy in Poland all the times I dreamed of America.” ‘The Polka King’ tells the true story of Jan Lewan (Jack Black), a polka legend performer in Pennsylvania who develops a plan to get rich that shocks his fans and lands him in jail.
“What you’re doing is illegal. As of today you have to give all that money back to your investors.” “Today, today of some other today?” Based on the Joshua Brown and John Mikulak‘s documentary The Man Who Would Be Polka King, about the rise and fall of Jan Lewan, the comedy follows the polka sensation who seduced his fans into investing in a Ponzi scheme promising them a 12% return on their investment.
In America schemes do come true. The stranger-than-fiction true story is directed and written by Maya Forbes and Wallace Wolodarsky. ‘The Polka King’ starring Jack Black, J.B. Smoove, Jenny Slate, Jason Schwartzman, and Jacki Weaver premiered at the 2017 Sundance Film Festival on January 22, 2017.
The film will be released on Netflix on January 12, 2018.
