“I want to ask you something, is there anybody you’ve loved that’s back slidden and is in hell right now?” “My daddy is in hell, what about it?” “Let me ask you something, would you get him out of hell if you could?” “That ain’t up to me. I can’t answer that!” Based on true events, ‘Come Sunday’ is based on an episode of the public radio series This American Life, which centers on Bishop Carlton Pearson, a rising star among evangelicals until he was ostracized by his own church and is branded a modern-day heretic after he started preaching that there is no Hell.
“Of course you would, anybody would so the question we have to ask ourselves is this, are we more merciful than God?” Internationally renowned pastor Carlton Pearson an evangelical star whose mentor is Oral Roberts — experiencing a crisis of faith — risks his church, family and future when he questions church doctrine.
Directed by Joshua Marston from a screenplay by Marcus Hinchey the faith-based drama stars Chiwetel Ejiofor, Martin Sheen, Condola Rashad, Jason Segel, Danny Glover and Lakeith Stanfield. The film will have its world premiere at the Sundance Film Festival on January 21, 2018 at the Eccles in the fest’s Premieres section. ‘Come Sunday’ is scheduled to be released streaming on Netflix on April 13, 2018.
