“Twenty-two years burned down all because of your sorry a*s. So what’s the tea?” “They saying it’s arson.” Written by Academy Award and Golden Globe nominee Lee Daniels – creator and executive producer of ‘Empire’ and Tom Donaghy, set in Atlanta, ‘Star’ revolves around a trio of talented young singers (Jude Demorest, Ryan Destiny and Brittany O’Grady) who form a musical group and navigate the cut-throat music business on their road to success.
‘You already broke, dreams burned down you ain’t got no room for pride girl.” The series features original music, along with musical fantasy sequences, as the girls dream of their future. Academy Award nominee and Emmy Award, Grammy Award and Golden Globe Award winner Queen Latifah plays Carlotta, a surrogate mother to the young crew. “There’s so many women that have gone through what Carlotta is going through,” says Daniels of the character. “And it’s grounded in spirituality,” continues Daniels.
“You gonna keep licking you wounds are are ya’ll ready to fight? Fame is a trip. It ain’t love like a lot of people think.” Star (Demorest), is a tough-as-nails young woman, who came up in the foster care system and decides one day to take control of her destiny. Star tracks down her sister, Simone (Brittany O’Grady), and her Instagram bestie, Alexandra (Destiny), and together, the trio journeys to Atlanta to become music superstars. The girls are back in season 2 of Lee Daniels ‘Star’ on Fox.
